Saints of sleep
say a prayer to the saints of sleep
beg if you must at their knees
for dreams are the wages for the labours of waking
complex constructions of aether and fancy
relieving the constant aching sent to relieve all the constant aching;
send smoke
send blood
send pain and prostration
prayers are just word for those mired in sin
it takes a man’s suffering to turn a saints chin
it takes a great effort to hear through the din
say a prayer to the saints of sleep
stay with them down in the deep
keep waking at bay for the labours of day
are the labours that make you weep
send sin and forgiveness
send loss and repentance
send bone and contrition and hope
drink from the cup that is offered
and linger in fleeting narcosis but know
it is light that presses the palm into the thorns
from fluids of excess ejected awaken and be scorned
Vocals: haunted, and subversive. Guitars: splintered shrieks. Drum machine: grim, unrelenting nausea. Visceral noise, with a hook that gets stuck in in your throat. Just try spitting them out. Stranger Killings
